Roadmap pattern studies

What Stripe’s product roadmap teaches about release clarity

An independent study of filtering, timing, and availability in Stripe’s public product roadmap, with an original editable Release Ledger template.

The useful pattern

A date alone does not tell a customer whether a change is usable. Availability and scope need their own labels.

What we observed

  • The public roadmap groups upcoming work by quarter and offers search and filters for product area, product, availability, and region.
  • Entries distinguish public preview from general availability and often specify a region or audience. The roadmap also separates upcoming work from shipped work.

Adapt it for your roadmap

  • Use quarter bands for broad timing, then give each release a separate availability label. A preview and a broad release can share a quarter without implying the same access.
  • Show a useful subset for each audience. In the editable Release Ledger, cards stand for fictional releases; change them to your own products, regions, and evidence.

Quarter and availability labels are communication tools, not delivery guarantees. Define what each label means for your audience.
